The sale is complete. AEW President Tony Khan and his father Shahid Khan are the new owners of WWE.
Earlier this year, Vince McMahon returned to the Board of Directors and became The Chairman once again. He was back to ensure that they get the best deal, especially before the upcoming TV rights negotiation for RAW, SmackDown & NXT.
While the exact number isn’t known yet, we are being told that Shahid teamed up with some investors to buy WWE in the $8-9 Billion range. We’ll confirm the number soon, as more details come out after the acquisition.
Tony Khan (who also owns ROH Wrestling) said the following at a press conference in Jacksonville:
“My Dad is the best! Every time I have a problem, he makes the impossible possible! I’ve always bragged about my dad’s wealth and I’m not gonna shy away from it because my father has worked very hard to give me this right.
Now let’s get down to business right away. As the new Owner, Promoter, President, Co-President, Executive Vice President, Creative Head & General Manager of WWE programming, I’m making some changes to the WrestleMania 39 card that our fans are going to love!
A lot of the fans have complained about Brock Lesnar vs. Omos. So instead of Omos, Brock is now going to face ‘The Cold-Hearted Handsome Devil’ Hook for the FTW Championship. And guys, please make sure when you report this on your websites, write Hook’s name in all capitals. It’s supposed to be HOOK, that makes him look dangerous, which he is. At 5-foot-9, 150 pounds, HOOK is the future of our great sport.
Also, I’m pulling Cody Rhodes from the main event. No, it’s nothing personal, I just don’t want to talk about it.
Roman Reigns will now defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against ‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry, who is another great main event wrestling superstar who I feel has all the tools to become the next face of Professional Wrestling and a household name.
Before I leave for Los Angeles, I got more one announcement. This coming Wednesday on AEW Dynamite, which is the #1 professional wrestling show on the planet, Vince McMahon and Paul Levesque are going to appear and join the brand-new ‘Tony Khan Kiss My A$$ Club’.
