WWE Hall of Famer and Baseball legend Pete Rose has passed away at the age of 83, according to TMZ Sports. The all-time MLB hits leader died earlier today at his home in Las Vegas.
His agent, Ryan Fiterman of Fiterman Sports, confirmed the news, requesting privacy for the family during this time.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest to ever play the game, Rose was a 17-time All-Star, three-time World Series champion, and the 1973 National League MVP.
Over his 24-season career, Rose played multiple positions, including first base, second base, and outfield, amassing a record-breaking 4,256 hits.
Known as “Charlie Hustle,” Rose epitomized toughness and determination on the field. He spent most of his iconic career with the Cincinnati Reds but also played for the Philadelphia Phillies and Montreal Expos before returning to Cincinnati as a player-manager. He officially retired as a player in 1986.
However, Rose’s career was not without controversy. In 1989, MLB commissioner Bart Giamatti banned him from baseball after determining he had bet on the game. After years of denial, Rose eventually admitted to gambling on baseball in the mid-2000s. Despite this, the lifetime ban remained in place, preventing him from entering the Baseball Hall of Fame, though he was inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame and also the WWE Hall of Fame.
Now, with his passing, the question remains whether Rose will ever be given his rightful place in Cooperstown.
Rest in peace, Pete Rose.
