Brock Lesnar Destroyed The Biggest Name In Wrestling 18 Years Ago Today

Brock Lesnar WWF 2002

On this day in 2002, World Wrestling Entertainment aired another episode of their weekly TV show ‘WWE SmackDown!’.

This episode was pre-taped at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Virginia and featured matches, interviews & storyline segments on the road to the ‘WWE SummerSlam 2002’ PPV.

In the main event of the show, Brock Lesnar destroyed “The Immortal” Hulk Hogan and Hogan was written off WWE programming with his loss to “The Next Big Thing”.

Lesnar became only the second WWE wrestler ever to defeat Hogan by submission/stoppage after Kurt Angle, and the first to defeat Hogan by having the match called.

An interesting thing to note here is that there were talks of Vince McMahon wanting to do a rematch between Lesnar & Hogan at Survivor Series 2002, this time with the WWE Championship on the line, but Hogan turned down the offer as he didn’t agree to lose to Lesnar again.

Here’s the match-card from that night:

1. John Cena vs. Kurt Angle

2. Mark Henry vs. D-Von Dudley

3. Rikishi vs. Deacon Batista

4. Hurricane Helms & Shannon Moore vs. Bully Gunn & Chuck Palumbo

5. Edge, John Cena & Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero & Chris Benoit

6. Jamie Noble & Nidia vs. Billy Kidman & Torrie Wilson

7. Hulk Hogan vs. Brock Lesnar
