During a recent episode of his ‘One Of A Kind’ podcast, 2021 WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam revealed that Bruce Prichard once advised him to kiss Vince McMahon’s a$$.

Here’s what RVD had to say about the conversation with Bruce:

“He was like ‘You need to build a relationship with Vince. Vince needs to know that he can trust you, that you’re the guy he can invest in, that he can put the belt on, that can lead this company. He needs to know that’.

I was like ‘Are you saying I need to kiss his a**?’. I’m out there having great matches, the crowd’s going nuts, I don’t know what else you want from me. That’s one of the things that held me back as well.”

On the previous episode of his podcast, Van Dam went into detail about the actual interpersonal relationship that he developed with Mr. McMahon behind the scenes.

Here’s what he said:

“I always got along with Vince. I don’t remember when we first started talking after I was hired there in 2001. I just remember he was always respectful and cool to me.

I remember going to him when I was frustrated about politics and he was very open. That might have been maybe the first time that I actually bonded with him.

I went in there and just unloaded about everything, about a lot of stuff that I haven’t even talked about yet in a public format. He was really cool and open to that discussion.

He was like ‘Rob, I appreciate you’re frustrated’. He was always open to ideas.”

After working for Paul Heyman’s ECW from 1996 until it closed its doors in January 2001, Rob Van Dam joined the World Wrestling Federation a few months later and became a household name and even a main eventer, several years before winning the WWE Championship in 2006.

Mr. Monday Night stayed with WWE until 2007, then wrestled for Dixie Carter’s Total Nonstop Action! (TNA) from 2010 to 2013 and returned to WWE for a 2nd run (2013-2014) with the company.

He returned to IMPACT Wrestling (fka TNA) for another run (2019-2020) and is now a free-agent, but recently told NBC Sports that he’d actually be happy to return to WWE.
