• Bruce Prichard Reveals If WWF Officials Were Surprised When The Fans Cheered Sid Over Shawn Michaels

During an episode of his weekly ‘Something To Wrestle With’ podcast, WWF Legend Brother Love (Bruce Prichard) talked about the Survivor Series 1996 PPV and its legendary matches, including the first-ever Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin match, as well as the main event between WWF World Heavyweight Champion Shawn Michaels and the challenger Sycho Sid.

Below are the highlights:

On whether WWF Officials were surprised when Sid as a heel got a babyface reaction over (a babyface) Shawn Michaels:

“Not really. Sid was getting those reactions and going out and big impressive bastard – people were cheering him everywhere we went. You kind of thought that was gonna happen, but we also thought that – for him to do something to Jose and capitalize on that, that it would turn him and I think it did. I really think that people did turn on Sid after the fact.”

On the first encounter between Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart and ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin:

“I thought it was excellent. It stole the show. When you look at the build to this, it was all built with Steve cutting promos and will Bret be there or will he not. It was Steve coaxing Bret back. ‘C’mon, Bret, what’s gonna be your answer?’ This was a classic example of people being talked into the show. It was a tremendous job by Steve, and it was kind of Steve’s coming out party as well.”

The Survivor Series 1996 pay-per-view also featured the WWF debut of The Rock (as Rocky Maivia), the final WWF match of Yokozuna, and The Undertaker finally defeating his archnemesis Mankind.
