Below are a couple of top AEW & WWE news stories of the day, featuring Bryan Danielson and CM Punk.

• Bryan Danielson officially ended his full-time wrestling career at AEW WrestleDream, where he lost the AEW World Championship to Jon Moxley. His decision to step back followed his victory at AEW All In against Swerve Strickland, where he pledged to end his full-time career upon losing the AEW World Title. However, Danielson avoided calling it a “retirement,” citing neck issues that will require surgery.

Speaking on the Nikki & Brie Show, Danielson explained, “I was very cautious to not say ‘retirement,’ except for the match where if I lost (against Swerve), I would retire. After that, it was all, ‘the end of my full-time wrestling career.’ We don’t know what’s going to happen with my neck, but it honestly feels like I have a bobblehead.”

His wife, Brie Bella, confirmed his need for surgery and shared that she wanted to make a public tribute to mark his career’s conclusion, but Danielson declined, emphasizing that “wrestlers are never retired.”

Reflecting on the transition, Danielson acknowledged the challenges of stepping away. “To me, at the end of the day, I realized this with my last retirement, which was forced. I didn’t want to retire, but they wouldn’t let me wrestle again. What I found is people are sad for a bit. Then, everybody just moves on and it doesn’t matter. The hardest part for it is probably for the person who does it,” he shared.

While Danielson misses the adrenaline and unpredictability of wrestling, he noted that his new chapter brings a sense of contentment and peace, even if it lacks the excitement of the ring.

• One year ago today, CM Punk made his long-awaited return to WWE at Survivor Series 2023, after being gone from the company for almost 10 years.

Punk issued the following statement on his Instagram story:

“Happy one year anniversary of my return to WWE. Thank you to all the fans for waiting, chanting my name for years, and carrying me on this journey. Thank you to my family and friends backstage for the warmth and continued support.

Thank you Paul, Nick, and Bruce for the trust and making it all happen. Love you all! We are just getting started!”

Interestingly, Punk wrote the above message over the photo of a pissed off Seth Rollins showing the middle finger to him on the night of his return:
