• Charlotte Flair Tells Steve Austin That She Didn’t Go Off-Script On Purpose During Controversial 2021 Segment

After being drafted to different brands in 2021, Women’s Champions Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair had to exchange their Title belts due to the brand change, but it didn’t go as planned.

Flair pulled her RAW Women’s Title belt away from Lynch and then dropped it on the mat.

Many backstage in WWE saw this as Charlotte going into business for herself and making Becky look stupid.

Fightful Select reported the following regarding the original plan for this segment:

“The original script actually called for Becky Lynch to grab the Title away from Charlotte Flair and brag about being “Becky Two Belts” before Sonya Deville would order her to hand her title to Charlotte.

We’re told Charlotte Flair didn’t agree this was the best course of action, but was told to stay the course. However, we’ve heard that mostly everyone had already been in agreement the segment was going to be awkward.

After Charlotte dropped the title on the ground, Lynch ended up throwing hers at Charlotte, which we’re told was planned for the segment.”

Charlotte appeared on Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions and had the following to say when asked if she went off-script in this segment:

“You’ve got two women. They wanna be the best, they wanna be in that top spot. I wish I could sit here and tell you, I did it on purpose but if people need me to be that bad guy, I’ll be that bad guy.

Things happen on-screen. I would never go on a scripted television show and purposely do something on purpose.”
