Below are some top WWE & AEW news stories of the day, involving Charlotte Flair, MJF & CM Punk.
• Charlotte Flair has signed a new contract with WWE, joining the ranks of recent renewals such as Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio.
Despite being sidelined due to a recent injury — tearing her ACL, MCL, and meniscus during a match with Asuka on SmackDown — Flair has committed to staying with WWE for several more years.
The contract extension had been kept under wraps within the company for some time. This was the first contract extension since WWE merged with the UFC to create TKO, predating the Mysterios’ contract renewals.
According to Fightful Select, The Queen is getting paid big money under this new contract:
“It is a huge money increase over her last contract and one of the highest-paid deals to a woman in WWE history.”
Charlotte also got a travel bus in her deal.
• CM Punk got fired from AEW after All In 2023 and then returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023.
During an interview on the SI Media podcast, AEW World Champion MJF said the following about Punk returning to WWE after almost 10 years:
“I was happy for him. Listen, if he’s happy, I’m happy. I think he’s a hell of a talent, and at the end of the day, it’s a business.
For some reason with wrestling, it’s looked at differently than any other sport. I see guys get traded to different teams all the time. That’s just life. So he did what he felt was best for him, and the company did what they felt was best for the company.
So I just hope he’s happy. I wish him the best of luck.”
MJF was the first man to pin Punk in All Elite Wrestling. Below is what he said about his feud with Punk:
“One of the greatest feuds. I’ll just say this, the greatest feud of the modern era was me versus CM Punk, I think, and that happened on AEW television.”
