AEW President Tony Khan ran wild on Twitter due to AEW Dynamite losing to WWE NXT. NXT defeated AEW in the ratings war as WWE’s third brand drew 921,000 viewers with a 0.30 rating in the 18-49 demo, while Dynamite drew 603,000 viewers with a 0.26 rating in the 18-49 demo.
Tony got personal with WWE Executive Chairman Vince McMahon, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H and NXT Head Of Creative Shawn Michaels by taking multiple shots at them.
He went a step further and even took shots at John Cena and The Undertaker.
During an interview with The Messenger, Chris Jericho said the following about Tony’s social media meltdown:
“I learned years ago that bosses are going to be bosses, and billionaires are going to be billionaires. I’ve been working for billionaires for 25 years. At this point, you can’t control Tony Khan. He’s going to do what he wants to do and God bless him. He created this company. He runs this company. He also grew up in the social media era.
I’m not going to tell him, ‘Take your phone away,’ because he’s my boss. Say what you want. Whatever. I think it’d be worse if I said that stuff because I’m not the boss, you know?
Tony Khan owns AEW. He can do what he wants. I’m not going to tell him no.”
Jericho later sent a message to WWE:
“You know, you can only bring in Cena and Undertaker and Cody and everybody else so much because nobody wants to work on their secondary show all the time. And it was a fun little, ‘Hey, F-you AEW.’ I didn’t even really worry about it.
It was just an opportunity to stick it to us with stunt casting.”
Jericho revealed that he pitched the idea of AEW bringing in Mike Tyson, Snoop Dogg & Shaquille O’Neal to compete with NXT, but Tony turned down the idea.
“This would be like a football game where you bring in all of your top stars from years prior and beat the other team 30-26. It’s like a video game. Let’s bring in Tom Brady from 5 years ago and then play him for one game against Chris Jericho. OK, you guys won, but you only won 30-26.
So, don’t get too far up your own a$$ because you didn’t do that good of a job as far as crushing us. And our show was better than theirs, quite frankly. So, it doesn’t bother me.
It’s competition, man. It’s good for the fans, it’s good for the companies.”
