Chris Jericho, a veteran with over 3 decades of experience in the wrestling industry, remains dedicated to AEW despite some viewing him as selfish.
Jericho has faced many opponents in AEW and has consistently worked to elevate younger talent, including MJF, Hook, Orange Cassidy, and Action Andretti, losing matches to help build their careers.
Recently celebrating 34 years in professional wrestling, Jericho discussed his experiences on the AEW Unrestricted podcast, addressing the criticism he receives for working with younger wrestlers like Big Bill and Bryan Keith.
He emphasized the importance of showcasing rising stars such as Daniel Garcia, Sammy Guevara, MJF, and Orange Cassidy, so fans can get to know them better.
Here’s what the first-ever AEW World Champion said:
“You want to feature them as much as possible. That’s one of the things critics would say, ‘Oh, Jericho’s selfish and blah blah blah,’ but that’s how you get fans to understand who these guys are.
I did it with Danny Garcia, I did it with Sammy Guevara, I did it with MJF, I did it with Orange Cassidy. ‘Who are these guys?’ And then you work with them and then people get more comfortable with who they are.
My job is to just kinda stand obviously in the forefront because of just the name value and the legacy that I have. But the bottom line is to always make sure that those guys continue to grow and get ahead and most importantly get confidence.
When you get confidence in this business, that’s when you get great, and you can handle any situation.”
Jericho’s latest match took place at the AEW WrestleDream PPV, where he lost to Mark Briscoe in a match for the ROH World Championship.
