On this day in Pro Wrestling history in 2012, CM Punk attacked a fan live on RAW.
CM Punk, who was WWE Champion at that time, faced Mr. McMahon in the main event of RAW. During the ending moments of the match, Punk low-blowed McMahon and this led to Ryback come out.
Punk tried to escape, but was stopped by John Cena and was sent back into the ring.
Ryback tried to hit a Shell Shocked on Punk, but Punk managed to escape and he went into the crowd.
McMahon then cut a promo in the ring while Punk was standing in the crowd and looking on.
McMahon gave two options to Punk for Hell in a Cell 2012 PPV – either face Ryback or face John Cena.
While this was happening, Punk was getting pushed around and a fan in the crowd smacked Punk in the head. Punk retaliated and ended up hitting an innocent fan (not the fan who actually hit him).

The fan who got hit by Punk was interviewed later and it was noted that he didn’t press any charges. The fan didn’t suffer any injury, but his glasses were broken.
WWE issued the following statement regarding this incident:
“WWE regrets that proper security measures were not in place, and CM Punk apologizes for reacting in the heat of the moment.”
