Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, involving CM Punk and Tag Team Titles.

• CM Punk, credited as Phil Brooks (his real name), is set to appear in the comedy film “Let’s Start A Cult,” which will premiere on October 25.

The movie stars Stavros Halkias, Wes Haney, Eric Rahill, Katy Fullan, and Daniel Simonsen, with appearances from Joe Pera, Ethan Suplee, and Tom Papa.

Directed by Ben Kitnick, the film follows a former cult member and his ex-messiah as they try to rebuild their doomsday commune with a group of misfit recruits.

You can read the synopsis below:

“Having missed out on his cult’s long awaited ritual suicide, an obnoxious loser teams up with his bogus ex-messiah to rebuild their doomsday commune. Traveling together through middle America, the constantly-bickering duo induct a military wannabe, a mentally unstable mom, and a mysterious foreign hitchhiker into their cult… but will this family of outcasts fulfill their transcendent destiny, or decide this life might be worth living after all?”

Punk signed with Paradigm Talent Agency in June and has previously starred in TV shows like “Mayans MC” and “Heels,” as well as independent films “The Girl on the Third Floor” and “Jakob’s Wife.”

Speaking of CM Punk, he will face Drew McIntyre in a Strap Match in Germany on August 31st, at the WWE Bash In Berlin premium live event.

• WWE has been on a successful streak for over two years, focusing on making each title in the company significant. However, fans have noticed that the tag team titles are rarely defended at Premium Live Events, and the reason for this has come to light.

Despite title defenses on WWE television, neither tag team title from RAW & SmackDown has been defended at Premium Live Events, which has left fans puzzled.

According to PWN, WWE plans to feature the Tag Team Championships at Premium Live Events, but they want to ensure the feuds are properly developed first. These events are reserved for high-profile storylines that drive the television shows, and the tag team division is still being built to meet these standards:

“Regarding Tag Team Championships being defended on PLEs – I’m told it’s coming, but they want the feuds to be built up correctly for it to happen. PLEs are for the highest caliber feuds which carry the TV shows, so it’s more of a work in progress for the tag team scene as of late.”

Finn Balor & JD McDonagh of The Judgment Day are the World Tag Team Champions on RAW, while Jacob Fatu & Tama Tonga of The Bloodline are the WWE Tag Team Champions on SmackDown (although The Bloodline uses the Freebird Rule, as Tonga Loa replaced Fatu during a recent title defense at a Live Event).
