On The MMA Hour, CM Punk took some big shots at AEW and even called Tony Khan a clown.

Punk also said the following about Khan:

“He’s not a boss. He’s a nice guy. And I think ultimately that is a detriment to the company. But it’s not my company. I’m an outsider.”

Before the debut of AEW Collision in 2023, Punk told Khan to his face that All Elite Wrestling isn’t a real business that’s predicated on making money:

“A lot of people are gonna be upset. It’s not a real business; it’s not about selling tickets, it’s not about drawing money, it’s not about making money. It’s about having good matches maybe?”

Punk also took a shot at AEW’s recent attendance figures:

“If you’re more than happy with some goof saying you had a 5 star match & the building is a quarter full… then we’re not in the same business.”

Former AEW star & EVP Cody Rhodes appeared on The MMA Hour and had the following to say about Punk’s comments:

“That is his assessment. It is not my assessment. It’s always important for me to remind people that I am so proud of what me, Matt, Nick, Kenny, Tony, Bernie, Brandy, and Dana, and Chris did. And I name all these people because I was in those meetings.

As much as the Internet will try to spin a narrative one way, if one of those people had not been at that startup level, the company wouldn’t have happened. And I am so proud of what was created.

I am so insanely proud of what it does for the industry overall. I love Matt, Nick and Kenny. And I love CM Punk. I don’t know how, but I do.”

Rhodes and Punk were the final two men in the WWE Men’s Royal Rumble 2024 match. Cody eliminated Punk to win and earn a title match in the main event of WrestleMania 40.
