During an interview with Inside The Ropes, Cody Rhodes clarified the situation regarding CM Punk’s involvement in the 2018 All In event.
While Punk claimed he never received a formal offer, Cody explained that they made several efforts to involve him, including sharing segment ideas and acknowledging Punk’s strong fanbase, particularly in Chicago.
Cody noted they even planned a meet-and-greet for Punk the day before the event. Although Punk didn’t receive official paperwork, Cody emphasized the team’s clear intent to have him participate, despite the lack of a formal offer.
Here’s what The American Nightmare said:
“In all the correspondence, if you don’t get back to me, if you don’t get back to us, we aren’t going to send you terms, paperwork, and things of that nature. If we’ve already extended, extended, extended it, like, it was made very clear that we wanted you to be part of All In because your audience, Punk’s audience, has never given up on him.
Come Chicago, you can do whatever you want. I had a built-in segment — here’s so-and-so, Go To Sleep — the easiest thing on the planet. Not getting back to us is fine; that’s totally fine. But it was strange when he was like, ‘Oh, well, they never sent me a real offer.’
So, that was kind of where we were at with it. And I understand what he means – he never got an offer in terms of terms & paperwork. But in terms of ideas for segments, and our overall interest and passion in wanting him to be there, and, hell, we even coordinated his one-hour meet-and-greet signing to be the day before — come on, man!
I’m being as polite as I can be right now. Like, I think we did; he doesn’t think we did. No big deal.”
Things are good between both men and there’s no heat. Rhodes went on to eliminate Punk to win the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble match.
