Cody Rhodes won the Men’s Royal Rumble 2023 match and didn’t get to choose which World Champion he’d challenge at WrestleMania 39, since both Titles were held by Roman Reigns, so that’s who he had to face.

However, the winner of the Men’s Royal Rumble 2024 match is going to have a choice. The winner will either challenge the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion (title currently held by Roman Reigns) or the World Heavyweight Champion (inaugural champion to be Seth Rollins or AJ Styles) at WrestleMania 40.

According to Xero News, WWE Officials are discussing current Intercontinental Champion Gunther winning the Royal Rumble match next year and then going on to WrestleMania to challenge the World Heavyweight Champion.

Gunther had a great showing in this year’s Rumble. He entered at #1 and was the final man eliminated. He lasted for a record time of 1 hour, 11 minutes and 40 seconds.

Speaking of Gunther, he has held the Intercontinental Title for 345 days, which means he’s 110 days away from breaking The Honky Tonk Man’s record of the single longest Intercontinental Title reign of 454 days back in the 1980s.

To break the record, Gunther will have to remain champion until September 8.

Gunther is scheduled to defend the Intercontinental Title against Mustafa Ali at the Night Of Champions premium live event this coming Saturday in Saudi Arabia.
