• WWE is known for its dynamic environment, constantly evolving with new promotions and shifts within its ranks. Recently, Friday Night SmackDown welcomed a new head writer, marking a significant change in its creative team.

According to a report by Fightful Select, John Swikata, a veteran WWE creative writer, has been promoted to lead writer for SmackDown. This change was confirmed by multiple sources within the company, indicating a new era for the blue brand. Swikata takes over from Ryan Callahan, who has parted ways with WWE.

Though not widely known in the public sphere, Swikata has been a senior writer with WWE for several years. His low profile is highlighted by the scarce mentions in media, with one notable reference being a 2014 tweet from Road Dogg. Despite the lack of public information, Swikata’s impact on the creative direction of SmackDown is already being felt.

A source within WWE highlighted Swikata’s influence, pointing to the creative direction of the most recent Friday night show. The June 21st edition of SmackDown stood out as a particularly memorable episode, with many backstage considering it one of the most significant since WrestleMania 40.
