WWE has multiple international premium live events lined up for this year, and it looks like they’re going to add one more to the list.
According to the Wrestling Observer, WWE wants to do a PLE in Australia this year:
“The idea of doing a major show in Perth, Western Australia, with the local tourism group co-promoting it has gotten more serious as WWE officials went to Perth to discuss such a show and it would be a PPV event.”
In an update, insider source BoozerRasslin is reporting that this PLE is expected to take place on September 2nd, and WWE might book the Optus Stadium for it, which has a capacity of 65,000.
The last pay-per-view WWE did in Australia was Super ShowDown 2018, which was main evented by The Undertaker vs. Triple H – Last Time Ever.
WWE has already held two International premium live events in 2023 so far:
– Elimination Chamber (Montreal, Quebec, Canada)
– Backlash (San Juan, Puerto Rico)
Below are the other currently scheduled international PLEs for 2023:
– Night Of Champions (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia)
– Money In The Bank (London, England)
– Crown Jewel (Saudi Arabia)
According to Brandon Thurston, Puerto Rico Convention Center District Authority (PRCDA) and the Puerto Rico Tourism Company paid WWE $1.5 million to bring Backlash to Puerto Rico.
During the WWE Q1 2023 earnings call, Nick Khan confirmed this report when he said the following:
“We also received a 7-figure subsidy for Backlash.”
