• The federal investigation into Vince McMahon continues even after his retirement from WWE, as his home was raided as part of the probe into millions of dollars paid to women following accusations of $exual misconduct.
In January 2024, Janel Grant filed a lawsuit against McMahon. Grant, who worked at WWE headquarters from 2019 to 2022, alleged that McMahon coerced her into a $exual relationship and, along with John Laurinaitis, $exually trafficked and assaulted her repeatedly from 2020 to 2021. Prior to this, in July 2023, Vince McMahon was served with a federal search warrant and subpoena over hush money allegations that surfaced before Grant went public. Federal agents were reportedly seeking “documents related to any allegation of rape, $ex trafficking, $exual assault, commercial $ex transactions, harassment, or discrimination” involving current or former WWE employees.
On February 1, 2024, Laurinaitis responded through his attorney, accusing McMahon of exerting power and control over him and making dictatorial $exual demands with repercussions if not met. Laurinaitis claimed to be a victim in the situation as well. On May 30, at the request of the Department of Justice, Janel Grant agreed to “stay her case” against Vince McMahon for 6 months to allow the DOJ to launch an investigation into the allegations against him.
Sean Ross Sapp addressed the federal investigation during a Q&A on Fightful Select, stating that there isn’t a real concern within WWE about the situation anymore. However, there is an expectation that the Feds will uncover more about Johnny Ace and Vince McMahon.
“People in WWE are not nearly as concerned about the company personally. They expect things to be found about Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis. That’s just the long and short of it. From a talent standpoint, everybody feels rid of those two guys. There was a false sense of security a few years ago but now it has been reiterated internally that there is no longer an association there.”
As the investigation progresses, WWE and its talent seem to have distanced themselves from McMahon and Laurinaitis, focusing on moving forward without their influence.
