At WrestleMania 39, Dominik Mysterio faced his father, Rey Mysterio, in a highly anticipated match following a long feud.
Dominik revealed on the No Contest Wrestling podcast that he was specifically instructed not to involve his family at ringside during the match. Despite the warning, Dominik joked about pushing his family’s buttons, especially when his sister Aalyah held a red cup in front of him.
Initially intending to take a sip, he instead threw the drink in her face, noting the possibility of her reacting aggressively. Dominik ultimately lost the match after interference from Bad Bunny.
Here’s what Dirty Dom said:
“At WrestleMania 39, I was pulled aside by, I won’t specify who, and they said, ‘Don’t do anything to your family up front. If there is something there, don’t touch it. Stay away.’ I was like, ‘Alright.’
I asked them, ‘How serious are we about me staying away? My mother did try and slap me a couple of times.’ I pushed the buttons a little bit.
We started the match and I see that… as stupid as she (Aalyah) is, she is holding this red cup right in front. Just posted up there. You’re just asking for something, either me slapping it or… at first I took it.
I originally wanted to take a sip of water. I look at it and I realize there wasn’t too much in there.
I figured, ‘Let’s just throw it in her face. It’s not like she is going to hop over (the rail),’ and if for whatever reason she hop over and put her hands on me, that’s assault. I would have hit her back. Or security would have tackled her. She needed to be taken care of.”
Also during this interview, Dominik talked about his WrestleMania losing streak:
“I’m 0-3 at Mania. 0-3, which is crazy. I’m going to be the opposite of The Undertaker.”
He also humorously dismissed Shawn Michaels’ “Mr. WrestleMania” status, claiming that no one cares about HBK since his hair loss:
“Nobody cares about Shawn. Ever since he lost the hair, nobody cares about him. Let’s just be honest.”
