Below are a couple of top WWE & AEW news stories of the day, featuring Edge and CM Punk.
• Adam Copeland (fka Edge in WWE) may return to the All Elite Wrestling ring on January 1, 2025, during AEW Dynamite’s first MAX/TBS simulcast event, held in his current hometown of Asheville, North Carolina. According to the Wrestling Observer, the timing and location make his comeback likely, marking a new era for the promotion.
Copeland has been out since May, recovering from a leg injury sustained during a steel cage match at Double or Nothing against Malakai Black. While attempting a high-risk leap, he landed awkwardly, breaking his leg.
He was recently medically cleared to return, but his filming commitments for Disney+’s Percy Jackson through January could pose scheduling challenges. However, the Observer speculated that the Asheville event’s timing might align with his availability.
In a recent interview with The Leafs Nation, Copeland humorously acknowledged the risks of his in-ring style at 51 but expressed eagerness to return:
“My brain forgets I’m 51, but my body quickly reminded me. Yeah, you just jumped from 21 feet, a$$hole. That’s technically three stories. You’re 51, quit it (laughs). But I feel good. I’m ready to get back at it and to get busy again.”

• As seen on Friday’s SmackDown, CM Punk told Roman Reigns that Paul Heyman owes him a favor for joining forces with Team Bloodline for WarGames at Survivor Series 2024.
Reigns asked Heyman what the favor is, but Heyman said let’s get through WarGames first.
According to the Wrestling Observer, Punk asking for a high-stakes match against The OTC, possibly in the main event of WrestleMania, could be the favor:
“I would think down the road. Put it this way, when Punk came in, he came in for a match with Seth Rollins for WrestleMania. Obviously, it didn’t happen and everyone knows why. That was the plan. And Roman was absolutely a plan, way later down the line. Of course, those plans change a million times. But I’ve got to think that there’s a good chance that maybe 2026 or maybe late 2025.”
