Famous Old School Memphis Wrestling Announcer Passes Away

RIP Rest In Peace

Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler announced via Twitter that legendary Old School Memphis Wrestling Announcer Lance Russell passed away earlier this morning at the age of 91.

Russell was an iconic announcer & commentator and is considered the voice of Memphis Wrestling. He was to the CWA/USWA promotion, what “Mean” Gene Okerlund was to the WWF … an absolute Legend on the mic.

His career started in the 1950s and he semi-retired when the USWA folded in 1997.

Russell also worked as an announcer for Ted Turner’s WCW World Championship Wrestling & Jim Cornette’s SMW Smoky Mountain Wrestling.

The WWF Old School Team’s deepest condolences go out to Lance Russell’s family.
