Brian Pillman Jr. (son of WWF/WCW Legend Brian Pillman) has officially left AEW.
He signed with the company 3 years ago and his deal expired, and Tony Khan decided not to renew it.
He was recently spotted training at the WWE Performance Center, which obviously began speculation that he is going to get signed by WWE.
According to Fightful Select, WWE had immediate interest in Pillman Jr. as soon as he became a Free Agent, and he was invited to the PC for a “get to know you” kind of meeting.
PWInsider later reported that this was Pillman Jr’s WWE tryout.
During a recent Captain’s Corner virtual signing, Brian’s teased signing with WWE by saying that a huge opportunity is coming up for him soon.
Below is what he said:
“It’s a tough business and it’s a long road to the top if you want to rock n roll. Being here today and getting to reminisce about some of the past moments of my career has really cheered me up and put me in a position to where I’m excited for the future.
There is a lot to come, I can’t speak on it right now, it’s kind of in the works. I have a huge moment, a huge opportunity coming up in my career to continue making memories, to continue coming up with new gear ideas and sharing my version of pro wrestling with you all. Thank you for supporting me.”
Brian’s most high-profile feud in AEW was against MJF (who is the current AEW World Champion) in 2021.
He used to team up with Griff Garrison, together known as The Varsity Blonds, with Julia Hart as their manager.
During an interview on Rene Dupree’s podcast last year, Brian said his team up Griff suffered when AEW took Julia away from them.
Brian’s last match in AEW took place on May 13th 2023, at an AEW House Rules event (untelevised House Show), where he teamed up with Brock Anderson (son of Arn Anderson) to lose to The Gunns (sons of Billy Gunn).
