For fans who fondly remember the dynamic presence of Melina in the WWE women’s division of the mid to late 2000s, the possibility of her return has always lingered. With recent buzz surrounding a potential second Evolution Premium Live Event this year, Melina herself has now weighed in on the rumors.

Speaking with Ten Count Wrestling, former WWE Women’s Champion Melina addressed the speculation surrounding the revival of the all-women’s pay-per-view and the potential for her involvement. While she expressed enthusiasm at the prospect of being part of the show, her primary focus lies in the event happening at all.

“Oh my goodness, you know what, okay, I’m happy for Evolution. Like, I don’t need to be in it. I don’t need to be in it. I would love to, but I don’t need to,” Melina stated, emphasizing her support for the event itself. “I’m just happy because it’s a show, it’s a pay-per-view that needs to happen. The women deserve that. They deserve it. It should happen every year. So I’m so excited. It has to be true, please let it be true.”

When the topic shifted to potential opponents, Melina named a couple of dream matchups, including Asuka and Naomi. However, she admitted a preference for teaming with Naomi due to their strong bond. “And if I were to have a match, I don’t know, there are just so many good people. You know, I keep saying like, Asuka and I, and then I say Trinity, even though I’d rather tag with her because I love her too much to go against her. I love her so much,” she explained.

Melina also showered praise on the current landscape of women’s wrestling, particularly highlighting the talent emerging from NXT. She likened the abundance of exciting new wrestlers to “being a kid in a candy store.” When the idea of a return in a battle royal was suggested, Melina readily agreed it would be an enjoyable experience.

“But there’s so much new talent now. Like, NXT is showcasing so many fresh faces. It’s like being a kid in a candy store. So, Battle Royal and I win, right?” she playfully responded.

Expanding on the multitude of potential in-ring encounters, Melina expressed her belief that an event like Evolution, which bridges generations of female talent, would be the perfect stage for such matchups. “I was going to say, there are so many people I want to wrestle. I think everyone wants to see me back, especially at Evolution, because that’s when you bring everyone together from the past, the present, and the future,” she concluded.

As previously reported, WWE is reportedly planning the return of the Evolution Premium Live Event, with a speculated date of July 5th. An official announcement regarding the event is anticipated before WrestleMania 41.
