At last night’s NJPW Windy City Riot 2024 event, AEW star Jon Moxley (fka WWE Superstar Dean Ambrose) defeated Tetsuya Naito to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, which is the top title in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Prior to this match, NJPW offered fans a glimpse into Moxley’s preparations through a revealing video on their official YouTube channel.
In this behind-the-scenes footage, viewers were treated to intimate moments from Moxley’s personal life, including interactions with his wife Renee Paquette (fka Renee Young), their daughter and fellow wrestler Bryan Danielson.
During the video, Moxley candidly expressed his belief that, regardless of the outcome, he will continue to be overlooked, disrespected, and underappreciated within the wrestling world.
His apprehensions underscore the complexities of fame and success in the fiercely competitive realm of professional wrestling.
Here’s what the former WWE & AEW World Champion said:
“Shots at the IWGP Championship don’t come around every day. Even if I win, it’s not going to matter.
I’ll be the most overlooked, disrespected, forgotten about, taken for granted wrestler in the history of this business.
It’s not gonna matter. But it means something to me.”
After the victory, Moxley has become the only man to win World Titles in WWE, AEW & NJPW.
