Below are a couple of top WWF and WWE news stories of the day.

• Former WWF Referee Tommy Savoldi, a cherished figure in professional wrestling known as “The Mediator,” has passed away at 85. A versatile talent, Savoldi built a legacy as a referee, promoter, and personality during a career spanning decades. The Savoldi family announced his passing in Parsippany, NJ, honoring his contributions and vibrant spirit.

Nephew of Angelo Savoldi and cousin to Mario and Jumpin’ Joe Savoldi, Tommy began as a referee in the WWWF and WWF before playing multiple roles in his family’s ICW/IWCCW promotion. One of his most memorable moments came in 1988 when he turned heel, aiding Moondog Spike to win the IWCCW Title in a dramatic betrayal that earned him his nickname.

Colleagues fondly recall his legendary sense of humor and zest for life. Brian Webster of ICW described him as having a “heart bigger than his home state of NJ” and a knack for making every moment unforgettable.

Outside wrestling, Tommy was a devoted husband to Fran and a loving father and family man. His passing leaves behind a legacy of laughter, warmth, and dedication to the wrestling community.

• During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes gave a new name to the current era of WWE:

“We’re in this period of time where there was the Attitude Era, there was the Ruthless Aggression Era, and now we don’t even know what to call this era of WWE.

I feel like we should call it the ‘Record Era’. We’re just breaking records left and right. The new management team, Triple H, Nick Khan, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson… they made it so easy for me.

I’ve been dubbed the quarterback because they call the plays. I just run the play, and hopefully, we all look good. It’s a blessed time.”

It should be noted that Michael Cole and Stephanie McMahon called the current era ‘The Triple H Era’ at WrestleMania 40.
