• Gimmick WWE Pay-Per-Views Could Be Coming To An End In 2023

On January 1, 2022, WWE introduced their new “Day 1” pay-per-view / premium live event.

WWE Co-CEO Nick Khan was the man who came up with this concept, and WWE planned on doing it every year.

Day 1 PLE on January 1, 2023 was already announced, with Brock Lesnar being advertised for this event.

However, WWE has now canceled plans for this upcoming event.

Wrestlenomics is reporting the following about it:

“WWE’s Day 1 premium live event isn’t taking place, according to multiple sources. The event originally scheduled for January 1, 2023 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta isn’t being rescheduled or rebranded.

There’s no PLE for WWE expected between Survivor Series on November 26 and Royal Rumble on January 28.

We couldn’t confirm a reason but the cancelation could be related to appeasing WWE’s business partner NBCUniversal.”

According to Bryan Alvarez, Triple H is planning to make more changes to WWE’s premium live event schedule in 2023.

Along with doing more international PLEs, Triple H is planning to do less gimmick PLEs like Hell In A Cell and Extreme Rules.

One of the gimmick PLEs that WWE ended in recent memory was the “TLC” event. That event lasted from 2009 to 2020.

Many fans have said over the years that matches like Hell in a Cell should only be done when a heated rivalry is going on, not because the Hell In A Cell event is next. So those fans will be very happy with this news.
