Will Goldberg be All Elite soon?
WCW Legend Sting will have his retirement match at the AEW Revolution pay-per-view at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina on March 3rd 2024.
During an interview on the Steve & Captain Evil podcast, fellow WCW Legend Goldberg, who is looking for his own retirement match, talked about how much Sting means to him and revealed that he tried to get involved in Sting’s retirement match.
Here’s what the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion said:
“Sting is the reason why I broke into the business. Sting set a great example. He’s about to retire. I tried to be part of his retirement match.
I would not have chosen to get into the world of professional wrestling if it wasn’t for Sting. He was a normal dude who went out and did abnormal things. Wrestling is like being in the circus, it truly is.
I never looked at it with much respect, but after I watched him from afar, I realized that I had the ability to go do it.
He was not only a performer. He had self-respect and he commanded respect. He’s one of the best human beings on the planet, and he set an example for me and I just tried to grab it and run with it and make him proud.
I had the best time of my life in the ring with Sting.”
Goldberg is currently not under an active contract with WWE, and as 2024 approaches, speculation arises about his future in wrestling. He expressed a desire for a retirement match in Israel, but no official confirmation has been made.
Although there are no immediate plans for Goldberg to debut in All Elite Wrestling, there has been communication between him and AEW President Tony Khan in the past.
AEW has a good relationship with Goldberg’s representative, Barry Bloom, who has helped secure contracts for other notable wrestlers with the promotion.
Due to this, Sean Ross Sapp noted in November that he believes the former Universal Champion will eventually debut in AEW.
