Goldberg recently confirmed that his WWE retirement match will take place in 2025, sparking speculation about his final opponent. Many fans believe it could be Gunther, following their interaction at Bad Blood.
According to the Wrestling Observer, Goldberg will return to WWE programming on the 4th episode of RAW on Netflix, which takes place on January 27 in his hometown of Atlanta, where Bad Blood took place as well.
It’s believed that WWE will do another angle between Goldberg and World Heavyweight Champion Gunther on this episode, to make Goldberg’s retirement match official.
Addressing comparisons to Mike Tyson’s underwhelming return to the Boxing ring at a similar age, Goldberg dismissed any added pressure to deliver.
On his podcast, he stated, “People will be more than pleasantly surprised with my performance,” noting that he has significantly more preparation time than for any previous match. Goldberg emphasized his commitment to meeting high standards despite being in his late 50s.
The WWE Hall of Famer previously revealed he was initially promised a proper retirement match by Vince McMahon after returning to put over Roman Reigns on short notice. When that promise went unfulfilled, Goldberg publicly criticized McMahon.
However, it now seems Triple H will honor the commitment, an unexpected move given their past real-life tension.
Here’s what the WCW Legend said about his retirement match:
“I’m a different person than Tyson is. I’m being asked to do something different than Tyson did. The amount of pressure that I feel after watching Tyson and Jake Paul does not weigh heavier on me by any stretch of the imagination compared to the pressure I’m gonna put on myself anyway.
I don’t give a flying fart if I’m 57 or 58 years old at the time. This time, I’m actually getting some prep time. I’m actually getting the ability to get ready.
So comparatively, even though I’m at the age that I’m at, I will have five times as much time to prepare than I ever have for any other match. And so if I can’t get ready in that period of time, with what I have to offer, then, you know, then it’s not gonna be enough.
But I do believe that I set my standards quite high, and at the end of the day, I think people will be more than pleasantly surprised with the outcome of my performance.”
