• Good News On Drew McIntyre’s Status After SmackDown
In the main event of this week’s post-WrestleMania 35 edition of SmackDown Live, The New Day (WWE Champion Kofi Kingston, Big E & Xavier Woods) defeated the team of The Bar (Sheamus & Cesaro) and Drew McIntyre.
Fans in attendance during the show noted that McIntyre could have suffered an injury during the main event.
While the match was going on, McIntyre slammed Woods on the announce table and then a commercial break came. After the break was over, McIntyre was nowhere to be seen in the match.
A fan in attendance for the show revealed what exactly happened:
“Drew just tagged out, waved his arms around for a few seconds as if he was brushing someone off that was talking to him, and then walked around the ring to the back. He did not walk up the ramp but took the pathway next to the stage that led to the backstage area. He walked out on his own but appeared to be hurt.”
In an update to this, Wrestling Observer is now reporting that McIntyre isn’t injured and WWE did this to protect McIntyre.
Below is what Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio:
“In fact he was not hurt at all. It was booked that way. Everything went exactly as it was supposed to go go. This is the idea and actually I’m not even knocking the idea, I’m just telling you what the idea was that since Drew McIntyre lost at WrestleMania to Roman Reigns that management felt it was best to protect Drew McIntyre because you know they need him to be a top guy.
Sheamus and Ceasro were going to lose the the match so they didn’t want Drew McIntyre anywhere near visible on the losing side of a 6-man tag. They didn’t want him there.
So the idea is that when you watch the match and Kofi Kingston pins I think Sheamus with the Trouble In Paradise you forget that Drew McIntyre is even in the match and therefore, he’s not hurt.”
