Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day.

• According to PWInsider, Beth Phoenix’s WWE contract has expired and she’s gone from the company.

After being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017, Beth worked as a Commentator on NXT from 2019 to 2021.

After her husband, fellow Hall of Famer Edge, came out of retirement, she teamed up with him twice.

At Royal Rumble 2022, Beth & Edge defeated Maryse & The Miz.

At Elimination Chamber 2023, Beth & Edge defeated Rhea Ripley & Finn Balor of The Judgment Day. This was her last match in the company.

• Pat McAfee appears to be stepping back from his WWE role once again. He initially took a break from WWE in September 2022 when he joined ESPN College GameDay, which conflicted with his travel schedule. Before that, McAfee was a commentator on SmackDown alongside Michael Cole.

The plan was for him to return to WWE after the college football season. However, due to his daily radio show, ESPN commitments, and becoming a father, he had to reduce his WWE activities. McAfee made appearances at the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 39 and did a segment on SmackDown with The Rock and Austin Theory.

McAfee returned to commentary earlier this year on RAW, reuniting with Michael Cole. This week, McAfee announced his return to ESPN’s College GameDay, which airs every Saturday during the football season, starting August 24th.

While nothing is confirmed, the Wrestling Observer noted that it’s likely McAfee will take another hiatus from WWE during the football season.
