On the December 30th episode of SmackDown, 16-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena returned to in-ring action.
Cena teamed up with Kevin Owens to defeat the team of Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns & Sami Zayn of The Bloodline.

Former WWE Tag Team Champion Paul London said the following about Cena’s bald spot on the Cafe de Rene podcast:
“Uhh, poor guy… I mean, I would hope he’s prepping for a role that requires that look. He’s probably not worried about it.
I would think with the millions that he has he’d be able to cover that up if he wanted to.”
Speaking of Cena’s return, the December 30th episode drew 2.63 million viewers with a 0.84 rating in the 18-49 demo, which was up from previous week’s 2.38 million viewers with a 0.55 rating.
This was the highest SmackDown viewership in over 2 years.
The Cena & Owens vs. Reigns & Zayn quarter hour viewership peaked at 2.83 million viewers. These were the highest quarter hour numbers for any wrestling show in the US in 2022.
