At the War of the Worlds PPV (ROH and NJPW’s co-promotional PPV), New Japan Pro Wrestling announced the debut of the IWGP United States Championship.

Below is what NJPW’s Twitter account posted regarding the crowning of the first ever IWGP United States Champion:
“G1 Specials in the US will have a 2 night tournament for the IWGP United States Championship.”
The G1 Special will be held on July 1 and 2 in Long Beach, California and the first participant announced for this IWGP United States Title tournament is former ROH World Champion Jay Lethal.
