During an interview with WU Online in 2023, Shane McMahon’s son Declan McMahon (age 20) was asked if he’d like to wrestle in WWE, just like his father and grandfather.

Below is what Declan said:

“When you’ve come up in this business and seen it… I’m never ruling it out. I would love to get in the ring, maybe a couple of times. You have to see if the opportunity presents itself. It’s all about the story. But, we’ll see.”

Declan added that he thinks he’d be a good in-ring performer and fans would get behind him.

When asked about his thoughts on AEW, Declan replied:

“I don’t watch that crap.”

Declan is currently a freshman running back at Indiana University. He appeared ringside at the Fastlane 2023 premium live event, where he was holding the Indiana University custom WWE Championship and was present along with his Indiana teammates.

On Busted Open After Dark last night, WWE Hall of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley aka Bully Ray read a statement given to him by Shane McMahon about his meeting with AEW President Tony Khan:

“Tony and I were connected through a mutual friend and we had a great meeting. We talked about many things, but mostly about our shared love for the business and the rewards and challenges of working with family. I congratulated him on the 5 year anniversary of AEW and look forward to how he evolves the business moving forward.”

According to the Wrestling Observer, Shane tried to return to WWE, but WWE management isn’t interested in bringing him back:

“I know Shane McMahon has looked to get back in WWE. I know that the people in charge of WWE have no interest in him. Could that change with the idea that he would be willing to go to AEW? Maybe, maybe not. Would he really be willing to go to AEW? I don’t know where his mind is.

Shane got a lot of money if you compare the amount of money Shane got for the amount of work that he did when he was an active few-times-a-year pro wrestler. It was a really high number.

Like I said, is it a leverage play for him to try to get back in WWE? Wouldn’t surprise me at all but I know from people in WWE, yeah, like I said, he’s tried to get back and they don’t have interest.

There’s a lot of negativity, I would say, has been there for a long time. And his coming back, it wasn’t like when he was gone they were begging him to come back.

Linda (McMahon) pushed very, very hard for a long time for him to come back and they took him back because there were injuries and they knew him and Undertaker were going to do business (at WrestleMania 32).

He had no role in the company other than very highly paid talent. But he had no executive position, nothing like that.”

People in WWE soured on Shane after what happened backstage at Royal Rumble 2022, where he allegedly attempted to focus the match on himself and faced backlash from wrestlers involved due to his behavior in the gorilla position.

After that, Shane O’Mac only made one more WWE appearance, which was at WrestleMania 39 in 2023, where he tore his quad in an impromptu match against The Miz.
