Hikaru Shida, a foundational pillar of the AEW women’s division, was spotted backstage at this week’s AEW Dynamite in Orlando. Her disappearance from the company has been a major point of contention for fans, especially after she was noticeably absent from the Worlds End PPV lineup back in 2024 – a show she was expected to attend given she lives in the local area.
According to Fightful Select, Shida’s visit was primarily to reconnect with colleagues while the company was in her backyard.
The mystery surrounding her year-long hiatus boils down to a brutal combination of red tape and physical recovery. Throughout 2025, Shida was locked in a battle with persistent visa complications that kept her off U.S. television, while simultaneously rehabbing shoulder injuries that limited her in-ring output. Although she managed to work a handful of dates in Japan during this time, her status as a “centerpiece” for Tony Khan’s promotion has been effectively frozen.
While her backstage appearance has reignited hopes of a full-time return, sources indicate she is still finalizing the paperwork required to resume a regular television schedule.
