• “If I survived that, WALTER will be just fine” – WWF Veteran Recalls His Name Change

Former NXT UK Champion WALTER’s name has been changed to Gunther.

It was originally scheduled to be Gunther Stark, but WWE realized that Gunther Stark was the name of a Nazi Germany military commander during World War 2, so they dropped the Stark part.

A lot of fans feel that WWE has already ruined WALTER, before he was even brought up to the main roster.

This led to WWF Veteran “The Hurricane” Shane Helms tweeting the following:

“In my WWE TV debut, I lost:

– My name

– My gimmick

– My entrance

– My entrance song

– My finisher

– And my WCW Cruiserweight Championship. ALL IN ONE NIGHT.

If I survived that, Walter will be just fine. 👍 👍 “

A fan then replied the following to Hurricane:

“Weren’t you a comedy character? I would think k that’s another difference.”

Hurricane then replied:

“Not when I first came there. And not when I turned heel and had a, wait for it, NAME CHANGE!!”

Another fan tweeted:

“It’s shocking how cavalier you’re being about such a controversial name change.”

Shane replied:

“It’s also shocking how illiterate people are on here. I never once mentioned the new name or defended it. I was making a point that simply changing a name isn’t that big of a deal. I even called him Walter.”
