Important WWE Rule For Ronda Rousey Ended At SummerSlam

At last night’s WWE SummerSlam 2023 premium live event, UFC Hall of Famer Ronda Rousey faced Shayna Baszler in an MMA Rules Match.

Shayna won the match via Technical Submission, after Ronda passed out to her Kirifuda Clutch.

The crowd was dead for this match and some of the stuff they did didn’t make sense, as the trainers once checked on Shayna for an arm injury in the middle of the bout.

According to the Wrestling Observer, Ronda & Shayna had some issues with WWE Creative about this bout:

“Ronda and Shayna wasn’t the best match. There were issues between WWE creative and them as far as how it was gonna go, and you don’t have knockdowns in an MMA fight and do 10 counts, or whatever, but it’s like, you have some people stuck in one mentality of combat and others in another, and that it kind of hurt that.”

The Observer also noted that there was a rule that Rousey couldn’t lose via submission, but Rousey herself ended that rule last night as her current WWE run (which began at Royal Rumble 2022) looks to be over:

“It may be the end, period. So the whole deal was that Ronda, you know this looked to be, ‘it’s my last match and Shayna is the one who got me into this so if I have to go out then I’m losing by submission’, because nobody was allowed to beat Ronda by submission, that was the key.

So, she did it, with her best friend, and I mean, in theory it’s great for Shayna if they follow up on it, so we’ll see.”
