Below are a couple of top news stories of the day, featuring JBL and AEW.

• On the Something To Wrestle podcast, JBL discussed Penta’s WWE debut match against Chad Gable on the January 13, 2025 edition RAW.

Here’s what the former WWE Champion said:

“They (WWE) do debuts better than anybody else. It’s absolutely unbelievable. To put him out there with Chad Gable, Gable is God’s gift to wrestling, man. He’s just like a modern-day Kurt Angle. He can do absolutely anything. He is so freaking talented and so good at what he does. He’s a lot like Kurt as far as what he does with his microphone skills, what he does in the ring, he can do comedy, he does serious stuff, he can be a great wrestler.

I mean, that’s the right guy, and that’s so important to put Penta out there with somebody like Chad Gable. Now, Penta, obviously, is a huge star. He’s gonna be a star no matter what. But you give him a guy like Chad Gable, and Gable helps make him. I thought the debut was absolutely fantastic. It’s going to really help.

This is huge, I think, for WWE, especially with the Latino population. He’s like Rey Mysterio. You say, ‘Rey Mysterio is one of the greatest Luchadors of all time.’ Rey Mysterio is one of the greatest of all time, period.

This has nothing to do with any type of demographic, but it does help when you want to run Mexico, when you want to run the Southwest in the United States, to have a great Latino star, and he is absolutely fantastic.”

• AEW’s annual Double or Nothing PPV might take place in a new city this year.

Since its debut in 2019 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the pay-per-view has seen changes in venue due to various factors. In 2020 and 2021, the pandemic forced the event to relocate to Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida. It returned to Las Vegas for 2022 and 2023, moving to the larger T-Mobile Arena before going back to the MGM Grand in 2024.

According to Fightful Select, discussions within AEW have considered moving the 2025 event away from Las Vegas, partly due to WWE’s WrestleMania 41 PLE taking place there just a month earlier.

While AEW released its full pay-per-view schedule in advance last year, this might not happen again in 2025. Reportedly, WWE doing a Live Event on the same day and in the same city as AEW Worlds End 2024 PPV in December is influencing scheduling decisions.
