Tonight’s WWE Backlash 2025 premium live event took place at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri. This is the 20th Backlash event.
In the opening match, former NJPW star Jeff Cobb made his WWE debut. He attacked LA Knight on orders of Solo Sikoa to help Jacob Fatu.

Fatu hit the Moonsault on Knight and pinned him to pick up the win.

Drew and Damian brawled outside the area and went through tables.
Up next is the Women’s Intercontinental Championship match between Lyra Valkyria and Becky Lynch. Lyra’s fiancé was seated ringside and Becky talked trash to him.
Becky got frustrated after she couldn’t defeat Lyra, so she brought in a steel chair. When the referee took the chair away, Becky exposed a turnbuckle behind the referee’s back.
Lyra managed to pin Becky and Becky lost it and launched a brutal assault immediately, locking in the Dis-Arm-Her.

The commentators said Lyra might have suffered a broken nose.
Up next is the Intercontinental Championship match between Dominik Mysterio and Penta. Finn Balor, JD McDonagh and Carlito interfered. Finn took too much time to attack Penta and the referee caught them in the act and ordered them to leave the ringside area. Penta took all of them down.
El Grande Americano interfered and hit Penta with a headbutt with a loaded mask. Dirty Dom took advantage and won.

Up next is Gunther vs. Pat McAfee. Gunther dominated McAfee. After Gunther powerbombed Pat and locked in the Boston Crab, Michael Cole reached near the ring to motivate Pat. Gunther grabbed Cole and was about to attack him, but Pat saved Cole. Cole even held Gunther’s legs down as Pat tried to pin him, but it didn’t work.

The Ring General eventually choked out McAfee to the Sleeper Hold.

Gunther showed respect to McAfee after the match and left.
Up next is the main event of the evening and it is for the Undisputed WWE Championship. It’s John Cena vs. Randy Orton for the last time ever. Orton got a massive pop from his hometown crowd. This is Cena’s 81st televised World Title match.
During the match, they recreated their iconic spot where Randy reversed the Attitude Adjustment into an RKO. Both men hit their finishers, but they won’t stay down.
The referee accidentally got knocked down. Cena hit the AA on Orton and is happy that the referee is down. Cena goes out of the ring and picks up the WWE Title. Cena enters the ring and gets hit with the RKO! Orton goes for the cover, but Cena kicks out and rolls out of the ring.
Orton is clearing the announce table and the referee is trying to talk Orton out of it. Cena pushes Orton into the referee and then sends Orton face-first into the ring post.
Cena is looking to hit the AA through the table, but Orton counters and hits Cena with the AA on the announce table! Orton pulls a table from under the ring and puts Cena through it with another AA!
Orton hits Cena with the RKO in the ring and a new referee runs to the ring to count the pin, but Cena kicks out! Orton was arguing with the referee and Cena ran to attack him with the title, Orton ducked and Cena hit the referee. Orton hits an RKO on Cena and goes for the cover, but there’s no referee. Nick Aldis and other officials come out to check on the referee. Orton is pi$$ed and RKOs all the WWE Officials in the ring!

Cena is laid out in the corner and Orton is looking to hit the Punt, but R-Truth runs in and begs Orton to not do it. Orton RKOs Truth and Cena low blows Orton. Cena hits Orton with the Title and pins him.

After the match, Cena took the mic and said he doesn’t need music or the fans, what needs is competition. Cena ended by saying this is what the last real champion looks like.
