John Cena spoke briefly to Adam’s Apple in a street-side interview where he offered a rare glimpse into his mindset following SummerSlam, addressed speculation around Brock Lesnar, and clarified that his retirement timeline is very real.
Reflecting on his physical condition after his Street Fight with Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam and jumping straight back into filming, Cena said, “I feel my age, but it’s nothing no hill you haven’t climbed before.” Though he admitted that the wear and tear is real, he seemed determined to power through it.
When asked whether he’s still learning new skills like piano or Chinese, Cena smiled and replied, “Those are hobbies and hobbies we like to keep personal. You know that.”
Talk then turned to Brock Lesnar, whose unexpected appearance has fueled speculation about a potential match with Cena. Asked how he felt seeing Lesnar show up, Cena responded with his usual veteran poise: “I’ve been saying the same thing for 25 years. They deal my play, you know.” He didn’t confirm or deny anything about Lesnar, instead focusing on the broader picture of WWE storytelling.
Cena reiterated that his in-ring time is winding down. “I’m just really excited. We got like 12 of these things left,” he said, implying he has about a dozen WWE appearances remaining in his retirement tour.
“I think SummerSlam was an indication from the audience where everybody kind of knows we’re closing our book. And just because I close my book in December, that doesn’t mean the WWE closes its books. They got to continue their programming going forward. So, they’re just trying to make the most exciting show for the fans.”
In closing, Cena was asked about his emotional in-ring exchange with Rhodes after their match at SummerSlam. Though pressed for details, he kept it private: “If the world finds out about that, they won’t find out about it from me, because that was between me and him.”
The 17-time World Champion made clear that the final chapter of his WWE career is being written, but he’s leaving the last few pages open for unforgettable moments.
