During a recent episode of the ‘NotSam Wrestling’ podcast, 16-time World Champion John Cena spoke about his iconic 2011-2013 rivalry with WWF Legend Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

The Chaingang Soldier stated that he had absolutely no reason to elevate The Great One, as The Rock was already tremendously over and already a huge legend in WWE, as well as one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood at that point (meanwhile he’s #1).

Here’s what John Cena had to say:

“I’d like to think that I gave every chance to speak my best.

The thing with our matchup, the thing that some people might not have seen was that it was Michael Jordan and LeBron James in their prime.

To do that in this scenario, you do not have to elevate The Rock. He will always be in his own universe – I don’t have to give more steam to that rocket.

To make the billing, you need to elevate John. So I was punching from underneath, but still punching and just looking for whatever.”

The Rock interfered in the WrestleMania 27 main event between John Cena and The Miz, then defeated Cena in the WrestleMania 28 main event, but eventually lost the rematch to Cena in the main event of WrestleMania 29, which was for the WWE Championship.
