Below are some top WWE news stories of the day, involving John Cena and Edge.
• WrestleMania 41 will feature John Cena wrestling his final WrestleMania match.
There are rumors going on that Cena will challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship in the main event of the biggest show of 2025.
During an interview with Bill Apter of SK Wrestling, John Cena’s father said he wants his son to face World Heavyweight Champion Gunther instead of The American Nightmare at this year’s WrestleMania:
“I think that right now, and I have nothing against Cody Rhodes, I have nothing but good things to say about Cody. If you remember when Randy Orton was kicking the stuffing out of me, it was Cody that came down and tried to make the save. I have nothing but good words to say about Cody Rhodes.
I think Gunther is at the peak of his career. He’s the best of the best – and that’s not taking anything away from Cody Rhodes. Because someday I’d like to see Cody vs. Gunther – Winner Take All. I’d love to see that happen at some point.
But I think Gunther vs. Cena would be the match. I think that’s the person he should face – the best of the best.”

• Edge wrestled his final WWE match on the August 18, 2023 episode of SmackDown, where he defeated Sheamus in a first time ever match.
According to Sheamus, Damian Priest was originally scheduled to be Edge’s final WWE match opponent.
Here’s what The Celtic Warrior said during an interview with Chris Van Vliet:
“We talked about it. I remember we talked about doing an angle together, a storyline together for a while. We came up with a storyline, it was shot down for whatever reason and then it just happened.
I just got a call because we did a promo the week before, and then we did the match the week after. Edge’s contract was coming up. No one knew if he was going to stay or go. No one really knew. I didn’t know.
I thought he was going to stay, because we were talking about doing something after that as well. But yeah, it was just a situation.
I think originally Damian Priest was penciled in, but then it just turned to me. So I don’t know however it happened, but I was really surprised that did happen. Excited about it too, because me and Edge have never had a one-on-one match.
Me and Rey (Mysterio) still haven’t had a one-on-one match.”
