Below are some top WWE news stories of the day, involving Grayson Waller, SmackDown ticket sales and Santos Escobar.

• On his podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle had the following to say about SmackDown Superstar Grayson Waller (age 33), who debuted on the main roster this year:

“I did see his match with Edge at Madison Square Garden, and it was a pretty damn good match. I think the kid’s talented. I think he has ‘it’. He’s pretty good on the mic, too.”

Waller is teaming up with Austin Theory these days. They lost to LA Knight & Kevin Owens on last night’s SmackDown.

• Last night’s SmackDown had over 16,000 fans in attendance. According to Sean Ross Sapp, it was WWE’s highest-grossing non-PLE in the history of the Chicago market.

• Santos Escobar turned heel on Rey Mysterio recently. He has left the Latino World Order.

In his feud against The LWO, Joaquin Wilde and Cruz del Toro were originally scheduled to take Escobar’s side, but that’s no longer the case.

According to the Wrestling Observer, Los Lotharios (Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo) will be called up from NXT to join forces with Escobar.

On last night’s SmackDown, Carlito said the first time he saw Santos Escobar, he knew he was a rat and would betray Rey Mysterio. Santos came out and said Carlito is to blame for Rey’s career being over. They got into a brawl, which ended with Santos standing tall.

Later in the show, General Manager Nick Aldis announced that Carlito is not medically cleared to compete against Escobar at Survivor Series. Dragon Lee offered to compete in Carlito’s place and Aldis made it official.
