Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, featuring Saturday Night’s Main Event and Vince McMahon.
• WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event is set to return with a live broadcast on NBC and a simulcast on Peacock on December 14 at 8 PM ET from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, New York.
The show originally aired from 1985 to 1991 on NBC and briefly moved to FOX in 1992. WWE revived it in March 2006 after RAW returned to USA Network under NBCU, continuing until August 2008.
According to the Wrestling Observer, Cody Rhodes vs. Kevin Owens for the Undisputed WWE Championship is the currently planned main event for the premiere episode:
“We’ve been told the Cody Rhodes vs. Kevin Owens match is slated as the main event for Saturday Night’s Main Event on 12/14 from the Nassau Coliseum, so at least as of earlier this week wasn’t slated on this show (Survivor Series).”
Kevin Owens turned heel by attacking Cody Rhodes backstage at Bad Blood. Owens recently took out Randy Orton with a Piledriver on SmackDown.
WATCH: Vince McMahon Kisses Candice Michelle (Part 1):
• Vince McMahon stepped down from all his positions within TKO, including executive chairman and member of the TKO Board of Directors, though he continues to hold TKO stock.
His departure stems from the Janel Grant lawsuit, which includes severe allegations from the former WWE employee. McMahon has denied these claims. In a recent interview, TKO COO Mark Shapiro mentioned having breakfast with McMahon, but confirmed McMahon remains out of power in the company.
McMahon’s status as a TKO shareholder is documented in an SEC 13G filing, which states that as of September 30, he owned 8,021,405 shares. The filing is required because McMahon exceeds 5% ownership of a specific class of stock, disclosing that his shares represent 9.88% of Class A stock. However, his overall stake in TKO remains under 5%, and he does not hold any voting rights.
As previously reported by PWInsider, McMahon is working on establishing a new “entertainment hub company” aimed at financing, developing, and producing film and television content. The venture is not expected to include anything similar to WWE, as it will focus on both fiction and non-fiction projects.
