• Old School WWF Legend Celebrates His Birthday
Old School WWF Legend The Undertaker (Real name: Mark Calaway) celebrates his 55th birthday today.
After wrestling as Texas Red for Fritz Von Erich’s World Class Championship Wrestling and as The Master of Pain for Jerry Jarrett’s Continental Wrestling Association / United States Wrestling Association, he joined Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling in 1989 as “Mean” Mark Callous.
In WCW, he was a member of The Skyscrapers, managed by Teddy Long, before he became a singles wrestler, now managed by Paul E. Dangerously (Paul Heyman).
At the 1990 Survivor Series PPV, “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase introduced him as the mystery partner of his Survivor Series Team, “The Undertaker” managed by Brother Love, thus replacing Bad News Brown who had quit the company a few weeks earlier.
The Undertaker is now considered by far one of the greatest Legends in professional wrestling history, most famously being undefeated at the grandest stage of them all, WrestleMania, from 1991 until Brock Lesnar broke the streak in 2014.
His next match is scheduled to take place next weekend at WrestleMania 36.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNDERTAKER!!
• Match Finish Botched On Last Night’s RAW (Video)
On last night’s episode of RAW, United States Champion Andrade and Angel Garza defeated Ricochet and Cedric Alexander in a tag team match.
The finish of the match was botched as the referee counted to 4 and Cedric tried to kick out at the end as well.
You can watch it below:
Dave Meltzer had the following to say about this botch on Wrestling Observer Radio:
“The referees are taught that if a guy doesn’t kick out then to go with it. Obviously, that was not the planned finish so the ref hesitated.
I’ll put it this way – I’m sure Andrade and Garza were winning and they were about 30 seconds from whatever it was gonna be. Probably a Hammerlock DDT or that Wingclipper thing, one or the other.
I mean yeah, it’s hard when you’re a referee and you know the finish and the guy didn’t kick out.”
