• Backstage News On Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena Rematch
WWE is playing things extremely close to the chest regarding tonight’s SummerSlam 2025 – Night 2 main event between John Cena and Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship, with even key internal personnel reportedly left in the dark about the planned outcome, according to Fightful Select.
Cena’s sudden babyface turn has caught many within the company and across the wrestling world off guard. The turn also marked the first time WWE has vaguely addressed the long-standing absences of both The Rock and rapper Travis Scott.
While WWE has yet to comment on any potential fallout with Scott, it’s known that he had been scheduled for more appearances earlier in the year, which quietly fell through. As for The Rock, his status remains uncertain. WWE staff as of Sunday had not been informed of any involvement from him at SummerSlam, a sharp contrast to previous major events where Rock-related buzz typically leaked by show day.
John Cena’s heel turn – captured by WWE Unreal cameras – now appears to have been partially reworked due to The Rock’s absence. Notably, the aftermath of that storyline shift was not included in Unreal footage, suggesting creative adjustments behind the scenes.
As for tonight’s headliner, sources say the result and surrounding details of Cena vs. Rhodes are being kept “very close to the vest.” Several writers and producers have reportedly not been informed of the direction by design, part of WWE’s effort to minimize leaks and preserve surprises.
