• Matt Riddle Backtracks on His Controversial Remarks About AJ Lee
Matt Riddle has never shied away from making off-the-cuff comments, but he admitted during TMZ’s Inside The Ring podcast that his recent remarks about AJ Lee were blown out of proportion.
During a previous TMZ interview, Riddle said the following about AJ Lee:
“AJ, you know, I have no problems with her. She never stepped into it. I mean, to be fair, and I’m not one to talk – I’m a little f*cked up myself – but she did go get around from what I heard. But no disrespect to that.”
Riddle clarified that his statements were never meant to be taken seriously or offensively. He said the whole thing was meant as a joke, and that social media outrage distorted what was really just a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor.
He also used the moment to express new appreciation for CM Punk, calling him one of the best wrestlers in the world and acknowledging his influence on the business. Riddle pointed out that Punk’s ability to return to WWE years after a major lawsuit shows how unpredictable and forgiving the wrestling world can be.
Riddle said he respects AJ Lee as a performer and sees her as a major figure in WWE’s women’s evolution era. He admitted that sometimes his blunt humor doesn’t translate well online and can come across harsher than intended, especially when taken out of context.
By the end of the conversation, Riddle made it clear that he has moved on from the controversy. He emphasized that his comments weren’t personal, and that both AJ Lee and CM Punk have achieved too much in wrestling for him to ever truly disrespect them.
