MJF is one of the top names in All Elite Wrestling and widely considered one of the best all-around performers in pro wrestling currently. But it seems like Bret Hart isn’t familiar with him at all.
During The Hitman’s interview on the Johnny I Pro Show, a fan shouted MJF’s name. The 3-time WWE Hall of Famer genuinely didn’t recognize the name and admitted that he barely follows wrestling anymore.
“Who? MJF? Who is that? Just curious though, who is it? AEW wrestler? As you can tell, I don’t watch a lot anymore.”
Bret also mentioned in the same interview that he believes wrestling in this era has become too fake:
“I have a hard time watching today’s wrestling. I just can’t really watch it. It’s too fake for me. But, I love watching the old 90s wrestling.
Like when I watch my matches back, or in almost any match, even obscure Stampede Wrestling matches, there’s something about the realism, the punches, the kicks, and even just the way the presentation is.
It just seems to me to be more onus put on the workmanship of learning the craft of being wrestlers.”
Speaking of MJF, he is expected to return to AEW programming within the next month, according to Fightful Select.
MJF is scheduled to work WrestleCade next weekend. He typically doesn’t do indy appearances when he’s on a hiatus from wrestling. This could mean that his return is very near.
He finished filming “Violent Night 2” recently. MJF reportedly enjoyed acting during his hiatus.
He last appeared on AEW programming at the All Out pay-per-view in September, where he lost a Tables and Thumbtacks match to Mark Briscoe. He was written off TV after a promo aired in which he said he wouldn’t return until he’s recognized as one of the most dangerous men in pro wrestling, and when he does, he’ll claim his place at the top on his own terms.
