MJF defeated Jay White in the main event of the Full Gear PPV to retain the AEW World Championship. MJF has now held the Title for one full year.
WrestlePurists is reporting that MJF suffered multiple injuries at Full Gear:
“According to sources, MJF hurt his hip during his match vs Jay White and had to have his hip popped back in after the show.
He was also said to have banged up his shoulder.
MJF is not expected to miss any TV time, but the current plan is for him to be featured in a non-wrestling capacity while healing up.”
In an update from the Wrestling Observer, MJF will get cleared by December 30th for the AEW Worlds End pay-per-view, where he will defend the AEW World Championship against Samoa Joe.
Joe had an agreement with MJF that if he teamed up with him and helped him retain the ROH Tag Team Championship on the Full Gear Buy-In show, then MJF will give him a match for the AEW World Title. Joe & MJF defeated The Gunns at Full Gear to retain the ROH Tag Team Titles.
However, later during the Full Gear post-show media scrum, MJF teased that he won’t honor his agreement with Joe for an AEW World Championship match:
“Here’s the deal. I really didn’t have a choice. I knew if I didn’t take Samoa Joe up on his offer I knew I was going to break a promise that I made to him [Adam Cole].
I’m just being honest, I’m not saying I’m afraid but Joe’s scary. Joe’s like a very big gigantic tank of a man. Literally, he’s an army tank with a Ferrari engine.
Am I looking forward to wrestling him? No. Am I gonna do it? I’m sure he’s gonna watch this but to be honest I’ve still got to think about that because it’s not like I signed a deal with him.
Sometimes I can be a bit of a d**che so we’ll see what happens. It was a verbal agreement but it kind of is what it is, Tony so let’s drop it.”
