MMA legend Cris Cyborg has reignited her long-standing rivalry with Ronda Rousey, issuing a harsh assessment of the former UFC champion’s boxing skills amid reports of a potential mega-fight against undisputed junior welterweight world champion, Katie Taylor.

The rumor mill recently churned with news that Rousey, who last competed in MMA in 2016, is in “active negotiations” for a high-profile boxing match against the Irish icon, Katie Taylor, possibly in the summer of 2026.

The potential crossover bout has captured immediate attention, but Cyborg was quick to pour cold water on the idea, suggesting Rousey is wildly out of her depth in the boxing ring.

Taking to social media, Cyborg delivered a scathing critique, referencing Rousey’s often-criticized shadowboxing technique.

“I once saw Ronda Rousey shadow boxing and her shadow won!” Cyborg wrote, adding the definitive prediction: “Zero chance she fights boxing. Maybe a return to the cage for a Gina Carano fight… but Ronda doesn’t belong anywhere near a boxing ring.”

Cyborg’s comments instantly went viral, tapping into the unresolved rivalry between the two pioneers of women’s MMA. Despite fans clamoring for a fight between the two for years during their prime, the bout never materialized.

The Brazilian superstar is uniquely positioned to comment on the proposed boxing match. As a multi-sport athlete herself, Cyborg holds a professional boxing record and has previously expressed her own interest in a boxing match against Taylor.

While Rousey has had tremendous success in MMA and WWE, her striking skills have frequently been questioned, particularly following her back-to-back losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes in the UFC.

Cyborg’s assessment suggests that matching Rousey against a technical master like Taylor, one of boxing’s pound-for-pound best, would be a gross mismatch.
