The state of New Jersey is reportedly using pandemic relief funds to help pay for WWE SummerSlam 2025, which will take place at MetLife Stadium.

According to POST Wrestling, citing The Bergen Record, the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA) has allocated $7.125 million from the American Rescue Plan, a COVID-19 stimulus package, to secure the two-night event.

This is not the first time the NJSEA has used relief funds for major events.

In 2023, it spent $3.5 million to bring UFC 288 to Newark’s Prudential Center.

Altogether, the $10.625 million spent on WWE and UFC events is a small portion of the $6.24 billion in relief funding the state received from the federal government.

NJSEA anticipates a significant return on this investment, projecting that SummerSlam will generate over $80 million in total economic impact.

However, the deal is still being finalized.

NJSEA spokesperson Brian Aberback noted that the funding application is being completed with the Department of Community Affairs, while State Senator Paul Sarlo has requested more information about the remaining relief funds.
